Device Group Rules (DGR)
A Device Group Rule (DGR) is an ordered list of Device Matching Rules (DMR) that determine which discovered devices are members of a Smart Device Group. A Smart Device Group can only have one DGR. When a new device is discovered by the Conductor, the device attempts to join all Smart Device Groups. Those that match all DMRs in the DGR sucessfully join that group.
The Device Group Rules dialog has three tabs;
Properties, Devices, and
Rules.
Properties
The Properties tab allows you to set basic information about the group,
such as Name and Description. The
Advanced Properties section is where you identify a group as a
Smart Device Group by selecting Use rules to add devices.
Note: If
Automatically recompute is not selected, the Conductor determines when
recomputing a rule is required and displays the icon in the Indicators column of the device list.
Manually recompute the group by selecting the drop-down arrow to the right of your device
in the device list and select Recompute group.
CAUTION: If you uncheck Use rules to add devices on an
existing Smart Device Group and click Save, the Smart Device Group
reverts to a standard device group and the Device Group Rule is cleared. Devices added by
the rule will retain membership in the group but you will need to manage them
manually.
Devices
The Devices tab contains a list of all devices that are members of the
group.
Note: In a standard device group, you manage members from this tab. In a
Smart Device Group, this tab is read-only, and lists all devices added based on the Device
Group Rules. It cannot be modified directly.
Rules
The Rules tab is only available once you check Use rules to add devices on the Properties tab. From this tab you can add Device Matching Rules that determine which devices are members of the Smart Device Group.
An example DGR
The screenshot below illustrates how a typical DGR is constructed. Once you have finished
adding basic information about the group and marking it as a Smart Device Group on the
Properties tab, you can start constructing one or more DMRs to
determine which discovered devices are added as members of the group.
