Dynamic Device Management with Smart Device Groups

Smart Device Groups allow you to dynamically add devices to a group by using a user-defined rule. Once a rule is created any new devices that match the rule are added to the group automatically.

This feature can greatly simplify the creation and management of large groups of devices. A Smart Device Group can be used to dynamically create and manage devices based on criteria such as organizational hierarchy, geographic location, or network domain.

This User Guide covers the basic concepts, reference and procedural material, and best practices for constructing rules.

For more in-depth information about Smart Device Groups, including an overview of rule ordering, operators, rule types, and best practices, see the Smart Device Groups User Guide, available in the Product and Platform Guides section of our Help Center at https://support.temperednetworks.com/hc/en-us

Note: Before you begin creating rules, please carefully read the information presented in the following sections to fully understand how ordering and operators determine which devices are added to a group:
You can locate Smart Device Groups in the Conductor by navigating to Devices and selecting the Device groups tab. Smart Device Groups appear in the same list as standard device groups and are differentiated by the academic cap icon, as seen in the image below:
