Put a HIPswitch into diagnostic mode

With a HIPswitch in diagnostic mode, you can troubleshoot it by collecting diagnostic information and you can also manage a variety of settings such as IP addresses, logs, and firmware.

After placing a HIPswitch in diagnostic mode, you must restart it to return it to normal operating mode. After restarting, the HIPswitch may require up to 3 minutes to return to operating mode.
Important: Do not continue pressing the Multi-Purpose or Reset button after 3 seconds as this will reset the HIPswitch to factory settings.
  • HIPswitch 100 & 200 series - Place the HIPswitch 100 and 200 series into diagnostic mode by pressing and holding the Multi-Purpose or Reset button for only three seconds. After three seconds, the status LED denotes Diagnostic Mode. For more information about LEDs, see HIPswitch 100 and 200 series LED blink patterns. Immediately release the Reset button.
  • HIPswitch 300 & 400 series - Place the HIPswitch 300 and 400 series into diagnostic mode by connecting a VGA monitor and a USB keyboard to the HIPswitch and at the login prompt, enter <diag> then enter the password <diag>.

Once the HIPswitch is in diagnostic mode, overlay network communications from the HIPswitch are disabled and device network is reconfigured with a static IP address. Connect a computer to one of the device network ports and the computer will use DHCP to obtain an IP address from the HIPswitch. Next, connect your web browser to http://192.168.56.3 to access the HIPswitch diagnostic page.
